Introduction
Lhasa, meaning Holy Land or Buddha Land in the Tibetan language, was first founded in the beginning of 7th century when Songsten Gampo built his palace where Potala now stands. Boasting a long history of about 1300 years and numerous historical sites, such as Jokhang Monastery, Ganden Temple, Sera Monastery it has been appointed as one of the 24 historical and cultural cities of China.
Generally the period from March to October is the best time to visit Lhasa. Since it was located at a very high altitude, it is wise to be well prepared before the journey. Warm clothes, sunglasses, suntan oil, a sun hat will be very necessary in this area.
